So you have a video you think is destined to go viral? Or at
least one guaranteed to grant you your 15 minutes of fame? Well, first things first, you have to get
that video off your camera and in front of the public. If you have a Mac, then you’re in luck
because all Macs come preloaded with one of the easiest video editing tools
around–iMovie.
Lets get started by looking at the interface. Apple has broken up the interface into
sections to make it easier to use and understand.
At the top are 3 very important buttons—importing, creating
and sharing.
When you click the import button you can access media stored
on your computer, your Devices or your camera.
You can even create videos using your Mac’s built in camera.
When you click the Create button, you can create either a
Movie or a Trailer.
iMovie has themes in each of these sections which you can
preview by clicking the play button. Or
you can choose “No Theme: and add your own transitions later.
The panel on the left contains your libraries. When you click on one of the libraries, the
content appears on the content screen.
The libraries at the top give you access to your images and video, as
well as your different projects. The
libraries at the bottom contain media to enhance your project, such as
transitions, sound effects, and music from your iTunes collection.
At the bottom of the screen is the timeline for your
project. To add elements to your
timeline, all you have to do is select your media and drag and drop.
The section at the top right is where you can view and edit
your media. When you click on an image
or video in the timeline, you have the option to “enhance,” which will
automatically adjust your media, or you can click the Adjust button to make the
changes yourself.
Lastly, a new feature in iMovie is the Theater. The Theater contains all your finished
projects. And if you have iCloud set up, you can store and share your videos
through the cloud.
So that’s a quick overview of iMovie. Give it a try—and if you get stuck, iMovie’s
Help Center is a great place to find more information.
